What to see in the Rías Baixas

WHAT TO DO AND SEE IN THE RÍAS BAIXAS

Enjoy a wine tourism route, with a visit to the Eidos winery in Sanxenxo or a tour and tasting menu at Gran Bazán in Vilanova.
If you love the sea, you can choose from the fun Mussel Excursion to a day of fishing, and if getting lost on an island is more your thing, we can take you to the Cíes, Ons, or Sálvora islands.

If you want to take the little ones along, there’s kayaking or snorkelling, and if you’re a pilgrim, there’s nothing better than the Traslatio Route from the Island of Arousa.

Stone and Water Route

This route, about 20 km from the hotel, can be done in several stages and runs through the municipalities of Ribadumia and Meis, ending at the Armenteira Monastery. It is a 7 km linear path where you’ll discover a good number of restored mills. It takes approximately 2 hours and is suitable for families and elderly people, as it is relatively flat.

Armenteira Monastery

At the end of the ‘Ruta da Pedra e da Agua’, you can see the Armenteira Monastery, which is an ideal spot to take a break in the surrounding cafés.

Father Sarmiento's Way

The Father Sarmiento Route is a hiking trail that runs mainly along the coastline of the O Salnés region.

This route is named in honour of Martín Sarmiento, also known as Father Sarmiento, an 18th-century Galician Benedictine monk famous for his work in various fields such as linguistics, ethnography, and botany.

The complete route covers around 190 kilometres divided into 9 stages, starting in the city of Pontevedra and passing through the municipalities of Poio, Sanxenxo, O Grove, Cambados, A Illa de Arousa, Vilanova de Arousa, and Vilagarcía de Arousa; continuing through Padrón until reaching Santiago de Compostela.

Along the way, hikers can enjoy the rich history, culture, art, and nature of our lands.

Pazo Rubianes

A magnificent setting steeped in history, Galician Pasiega architecture, botanical monuments, thousands of camellias, and vineyards. We will finish with a wine tasting in the cellar, making the guided tour of the Pazo a truly complete experience.

Pontevedra

It boasts the magnificent Basilica of Santa María la Mayor, which, together with the Chapel of the Virgin of the Pilgrim, built in the 18th century, constitute its most iconic monuments. We can admire the Pontevedra Museum, with its diverse collections of art and archaeology from all eras, especially from Galicia. It also has a rich library and archive. Its buildings stand in the old part of the city, which has a unique and wonderful charm.

Barosa River Waterfall

The Barosa River waterfalls, nestled in the Nature Park of the river that shares its name, are located in the province of Pontevedra on the road towards Caldas de Reis.

In essence, it is a series of watermills that overcome a steep slope. Some of these mills (those closest to the car park) have been restored and converted into taverns, where you can enjoy a good meal washed down with local wines. You will also find a picnic area with barbecues.

Vigo

The neoclassical Collegiate Church of Santa María, the city centre, the Quiñones de León Museum, and the viewpoints of El Castro, La Guía, and La Madroa—offering splendid views over the estuary and the nearby Cíes Islands—are all well worth a visit.

Cíes Islands

They form part of the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park. Located in the Vigo Estuary, they are home to Rodas Beach, which was named the best beach in the world by the prestigious newspaper The Guardian.

Tui

The cathedral and the Gothic cloister built to the south are worth a visit, as are the churches of Santo Domingo and San Francisco. The convent of the Poor Clares, the “Encerradas”, and the chapel of La Misericordia are also worthy of mention. Portuguese Baroque can be felt in the church of San Telmo, patron saint of the city.
